India Opposition Leader Kejriwal Says Will Resign as Delhi Chief Minister

New Delhi, Feb. 21, 2023 (IANS)

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday said he will resign from his post after the party's resounding victory in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections.

'Will Give Up CM Post After Holi'

Addressing the media, Kejriwal said, "I will give up the post of Chief Minister after Holi. I had promised during the MCD polls that if AAP wins, I will leave the CM's post. I will fulfill my promise."

'Win a Landslide Victory'

The AAP won a landslide victory in the MCD elections, securing 134 of the 250 wards, ending the 15-year rule of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the civic body.

'BJP's Arrogance Defeated'

Kejriwal said that the AAP's victory was a result of the "arrogance" of the BJP and its leaders. "The people of Delhi have given a befitting reply to the BJP's arrogance," he said.

'Fulfill All Promises'

The AAP leader also assured the people of Delhi that his party will fulfill all the promises made during the MCD elections, including improving the condition of schools, hospitals, and roads.

'Historic Victory'

Kejriwal termed the AAP's victory as "historic" and said that it will boost the party's morale ahead of the upcoming assembly elections in Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat.

'Appeal to PM Modi'

Kejriwal appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to cooperate with the AAP-led MCD in addressing the problems faced by the people of Delhi.

'End to BJP's 'Jungle Raj''

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said that the AAP's victory marks the end of the "jungle raj" of the BJP in Delhi.

'Era of Development'

Sisodia said that the AAP government will now focus on developing Delhi and making it a world-class city.
